Switch the eSIM on after landing

The short answer
After landing, switch the eSIM line on and choose it for mobile data. On a local plan the phone connects as a Moroccan line on Orange Maroc and no roaming switch is needed; on a regional plan, turn data roaming on for that line. Your home line stays on for calls and WhatsApp either way.

Switch the eSIM on after you land, choose it for mobile data, and check the roaming setting your plan needs. On a local plan the phone connects as a Moroccan line; on a regional plan, it connects through a partner network with roaming on.
On iPhone
- Settings, Mobile Service: switch the Morocco line on.
- Mobile Data: choose the Morocco line.
- Tap the Morocco line: turn Data Roaming on only if you are on a regional plan.
- Leave your usual line on for calls, with Data Roaming off.
On Android
- Settings, Network and internet, SIMs: switch the new line on.
- Mobile data: choose the new line.
- In the line’s settings, turn Data roaming on only for a regional plan.
- Leave your usual SIM as the line for calls and messages.
Then check
- The status bar shows 4G or 5G; a local plan shows Orange Maroc.
- Open a map: it should load without Wi-Fi.
- Send a WhatsApp message to be sure the data line is doing its job.
If nothing loads, the no-connection article starts with the checks that fix most cases.
Questions
Does the eSIM need data roaming on?
It depends on the plan. A local plan runs on Orange Maroc as a Moroccan line, so no. A regional plan connects through a partner network in each country, so yes: turn data roaming on for the eSIM line only.
Will my own number still work?
Yes, on a dual-SIM phone. Keep your usual SIM on for calls and messages and give the eSIM the data. WhatsApp stays on your own number.
How do I stop my home carrier charging me for data?
Turn data roaming off on your home line and make sure mobile data is set to the eSIM. The travel line handles the data from then on.
Nothing happens when I switch it on. Now what?
Give it a minute to find the network. On a regional plan, check data roaming is on for the eSIM line; on a local plan it should connect as Orange Maroc on its own. If there is still nothing, restart the phone, then see the no-connection article.
