Marrakech Menara (RAK)
- RAK
- Network counters after customs
- 20 minutes to the medina

The short answer
Marrakech Menara is a small, quick airport. Orange, Maroc Telecom and inwi counters sit near arrivals, after customs, and sell prepaid SIMs registered to your passport. An eSIM installed before the flight is already on the phone: switch it on when you land and walk past the counters.

The valleys thin out
The city and the airport are strong; mountain valleys are thinner, so download maps before any Atlas day.
Practical notes
- WeatherMarrakech runs hot from June to September; from December to February the nights are genuinely cold. Layers work here.
- MoneyChange a little at the airport for the first taxi and tips, then use city rates. Dirhams cannot be taken out of the country.

- The medinaGPS struggles in the alleys. Ask the riad for a pin and a landmark, and screenshot it.
Marrakech Menara (RAK) is named for the same dynasty as the city: the menara is the minaret-shaped reservoir southwest of the medina, and the airport keeps the look. It is small enough to cross in minutes, which is why the first decision after landing is the useful one: walk past the network counters, or join them.
Getting online at RAK
Network counters: Orange, Maroc Telecom and inwi all sell prepaid SIMs near arrivals, after customs. A SIM bought there costs around 20 dirhams including 20 dirhams of credit, and it is registered to your passport before it works.
An eSIM instead: on the phone before you fly. Switch the line on after landing, choose it for mobile data, and the phone is online while you walk to the carousel. On a local plan it connects as a Moroccan line on Orange Maroc; plans and prices are on the plans page.
Getting into the city
The medina is about six kilometres away, fifteen to twenty minutes by road. Agree the taxi fare before getting in; ride-hailing apps active in the city are the other option. Buses run too, if your riad is near the route, but with luggage the taxi conversation is worth the few dirhams.
Practical notes
- Weather: Marrakech runs hot from June to September; from December to February the nights are genuinely cold. Layers work here more than anywhere on a Morocco trip.
- Money: change a little at the airport for the first taxi and tips, then use city rates. Dirhams cannot be taken out of Morocco, so change on arrival rather than before.
- Signal: strong across the city and the airport; the Atlas valleys thin out, so download maps before any mountain day.
- The medina: GPS struggles in the alleys. Ask the riad for a pin and a landmark, and take a screenshot of it.
